Asbestos Worker Training Course

Course Overview

The Asbestos Worker Training Course is designed for individuals involved in the removal or repair of asbestos on abatement and O&M projects. This training is required under the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) of 1986 and complies with the EPA Asbestos Model Accreditation Plan as well as ASHARA accreditation requirements. It has been fully approved by the EPA, various states, and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

All asbestos removal activities must be performed under the supervision of a certified Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor. Upon successful completion of this course, workers will receive a certificate required to work on asbestos abatement projects, which must be carried at all times while on-site.

Course Structure & Requirements

  • Duration: 32 hours (4 consecutive days)
  • Exam: 50 multiple-choice questions, passing score 70% or higher
  • Certificate Validity: 365 days (Annual 8-hour refresher required)
  • Prerequisite: Must pass an asbestos physical administered by a licensed physician

Note: Successful completion of the Contractor/Supervisor Training Course also qualifies as meeting the requirements for Asbestos Worker accreditation. This class is the first step toward becoming a registered abatement worker in Texas.

Please Note: Your state has detailed education, experience and application processing requirements to qualify for licensing in the Asbestos field. Most states administer their own asbestos programs, and each state’s Department of Environmental Protection/Health is generally the best place to start with questions about requirements and training. Students are responsible to verify these requirements prior to registering for a course.
