The Asbestos Management Planner Training Course is designed for certified Asbestos Inspectors seeking to develop Asbestos Management Plans (MPs) for buildings. While EPA regulations under AHERA and ASHARA currently require management plans for public school buildings, many states impose additional regulations that govern the duties and responsibilities of Management Planners.
This course provides essential training on risk assessment, control strategies, regulatory compliance, and financial considerations related to asbestos management. Students will learn how to evaluate asbestos survey data, determine necessary actions, and develop a comprehensive Operations & Maintenance (O&M) plan for long-term asbestos management.
This program is fully approved by the EPA, various state agencies, and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to meet accreditation requirements for K-12 schools, public buildings, and commercial properties.
Course Topics Covered
Survey Evaluation & Hazard Assessment: Analyzing asbestos inspection data and assessing risks
Legal & Regulatory Compliance: Understanding federal, state, and local asbestos regulations
Developing a Management Plan: Assembling, submitting, and maintaining asbestos management plans
Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Planning: Strategies for managing ACMs safely
Control Options & Risk Mitigation: Evaluating and selecting abatement actions
Financial Planning & Budgeting: Cost considerations for asbestos management and abatement
Field Walk-Through Inspection: Hands-on building assessment at an off-site location
Course Structure & Requirements
Prerequisite: Must have a high school diploma or GED and have successfully completed the Asbestos Inspector Training Course. Some states may require additional education.
Certificate Validity: 365 days (Annual 4-hour refresher required)
In Texas, as in many other states, Management Planners must also hold a valid state-issued license to perform asbestos management planning services.
Please Note: Your state has detailed education, experience and application processing requirements to qualify for licensing in the Asbestos field. Most states administer their own asbestos programs, and each state’s Department of Environmental Protection/Health is generally the best place to start with questions about requirements and training. Students are responsible to verify these requirements prior to registering for a course.
